<br /></div>
<div>
It is called <a href="https://www.pectolite.net/hair-care/coconutfree-shampoo" target="_blank">Coconut-Free Probiotic Shampoo</a> and yes, it lathers! Pectolite sent me a free sample and I have been trying it on and off for a week and want to share my opinion. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My first response when using this in the shower is "OOPS I think I got it in my eyes!" This shampoo really stings and I think I am really an in-shower eye-rubber. So I don't suggest using it on kids. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When I consciously worked hard to NOT get it in my eyes, the next time, it was okay.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have medium-length fine hair and it did have a decent lather. Not like bubble bath or anything, but better than other coconut free shampoos I have tried. It smells like plain yogurt or kefir. Not a bad smell, and it washes out so my hair just smelled plain afterward.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The shampoo did a remarkable job at getting my scalp clean and my hair was very clean afterward. I am not sure this could be an every day shampoo because it felt like it did strip my hair more than usual. I felt like I needed to use some conditioner with it. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I highly suggest trying it for yourself. Here are the ingredients: </div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; color: rgba(17, 17, 17, 0.6); font-family: proxima-nova; font-size: 15px; letter-spacing: 0.15px; white-space: pre-wrap;">INGREDIENTS: Artesian Spring Water, Wildcrafted Soap Nut (Sapindus saponaria), Makrut Lime (Citrus Hystrix), Elephant Apple (Dillenia indica), Wildcrafted Indian-Laurel Leaf (Calophyllum inophyllum), Wildcrafted Amla Fruit (Phyllanthus Emblica), Pineapple (Ananas comosus), Probiotics (Lactobacillus casei, Rhodopseudomonas palustris, Saccharomyces cerevisiae)</span><br /><div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It also has a warning that people who are sensitive to latex might have sensitivities to soap nuts. </div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Test it out and let Pectolite know what you think!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
PS: If you are already planning on buying some soaps, etc: </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Use the promo code 1211LIVE if you purchase $60+ to get $5 off your shampoo order. 10 oz full size
is $22 or 2 oz sampler is $5. So essentially, you can use it to get a free

Dan said:<br />
<br />
"We found your blog online, and it has been helpful in
dealing with my daughter’s coconut allergy. I thought you might like to
know that we found this company in the UK who has toothpaste that is SLS free
and uses glycerin that is coconut free. <a href="https://www.greenpeople.co.uk/shop/by-product/natural-toothpaste">https://www.greenpeople.co.uk/shop/by-product/natural-toothpaste</a>
We are going to be buying this for my daughter who has a coconut allergy.
Up until now, the toothpaste options have not been great for kids, and it has
been difficult to get my daughter to brush meaningfully as a result. They
have at least 2 kids flavors and several adult flavors."<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">

I hope this putting coconut oil in meats stops really soon. Can you imagine having allergic reactions to random pizza at parties or for take-out? <br />
<br />
Luckily, I have only seen coconut oil in pepperoni in Volpi brand pepperoni. And it is only maybe in there depending on whether palm or coconut oil is cheaper at the given time of production. <br />

<br />
Our coconut allergic people can't use your toothpaste anymore. <br />
<br />
It's true, the formula has changed on us and now "sodium lauroyl sarcosinate" is in the ingredients. I looked on my old tube that is half full still and it's definitely a new formula now. Their might be a few old tubes on amazon with the old ingredients, but beware, they may have just not updated the ingredients yet on third party sellers.<br />

Coconut free lotion is what fills my inbox almost daily with emails begging for ideas, help. . . asking what to use for certain conditions, multiple allergies, on babies, on scent sensitive kids, and the list goes on.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I usually suggest coconut free lotion-type things found at the drug store that are almost straight off the periodic table:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Mineral Oil (Baby Oil is just a scented version of this) </div>
<div>
Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline)</div>
<div>
Vitamin E</div>
<div>
Lanolin (like in breast feeding ointments)</div>
<div>
Aquaphor (a mix of several of these elemental ingredients- one of my most used lotions)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Despite being able to use these generic ingredients, I miss "real" lotion. But, there is a new one that just came out from Pectolite called none other than "<a href="http://www.pectolite.net/Body-Lotion-p/790683768396.htm">Coconut and Palm Oil Free Body Lotion</a>". </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.pectolite.net/Body-Lotion-p/790683768396.htm"><img border="0" data-original-height="288" data-original-width="432" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy6hyH2IS1SvOidIoL7Hfg7qpTluLLe8x0ht2bKbumWN3GbmKNbsSvdbOR9tyoNcZLdY-m7aagXKzL98bTf2RT77jtzsmiSSOdrTJud7uoGF74Boonal8ws3Q4zxOnqsty202MK7zL_DUu/s320/Lotion+copy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Pectolite sent it to me to try out and I've been using it for a couple of weeks once the cold chapped air finally got to me and I'm happy to report it is really good stuff. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It has some really creative (and coconut-free) ingredients: </div>
<span style="background-color: whitesmoke; color: #666666; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">Water (Aqua), Cupuacu (Theobroma Grandiflorum) Butter, Safflower (Carthamus Tinctorius ) Seed Oil, Rice (Oryza Sativa) Bran Oil, Jojoba (Simmondsia Chinensis) Seed Oil, Hydroxystearyl Alcohol and Hydroxystearyl Glucoside, Hydrogenated Olive Oil (and) Olive Oil (Olea Europaea) (and) Olive Oil Unsaponifiables, Kokum (Garcinia Indica) Butter, Camellia (Camellia Oleifera) Seed Oil, Avocado (Persea Gratissima) Oil , Xanthan Gum, Lactobacillis Ferment, Gluconodeltalactone (and) Sodium Benzoate, Fragrance and/or Essential Oil(s)</span><br />
<div>
<span style="background-color: whitesmoke; color: #666666; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The lotion absorbs well, isn't greasy at all, and is long lasting. Some of you with bad reactions to petroleum products might especially enjoy it. My lotion was completely unscented and it just smelled faintly of olive oil. You can order it in several scents that their coconut free soaps also come in. I did have to shake it up after it sat for awhile since I didn't use a pump and it has a tendency to separate a little bit. I didn't use it on my face, but it moisturized and was very healing on my hands, legs, and even feet! My skin seemed rejuvinated and it never made me itchy or red! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you want to try it, go to <a href="http://www.pectolite.net/Default.asp">Pectolite.net </a>(not .com)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Happy Winter!</div>

<a href="https://www.bathgeek.com/shop?product_tag=coconut-free">www.bathgeek.com</a><span id="goog_1682917569"></span><a href="https://www.blogger.com/"></a><span id="goog_1682917570"></span></div>
<div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
They sent me a couple soaps to try out and these are a little different than other soaps out there. They are 100% olive oil Castile, which has a reputation for feeling a little slimy, but used in some applications the form of lather also has some benefit. For example, they are awesome for shaving with because slimy is good when you want it to have a lubricant for your razor! And honestly, they hold together much better than the Kiss My Face Olive Oil Soap.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Bath Geek's soaps use a sugar and multiple-lye formula. Lye and potash soap doesn't mean it has lye in it- it means that that is what is used to change the oil into soap. I noticed that they pack a powerful cleaning punch! For example, my magicmarker-stained three year old girl came out cleaner than usual as did the super dirt stained knees of my six year old boy. They are nice slippy slidey coconut free soaps.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
However, I found they can also could be a little more drying than other soaps, but this might be due to the cure time of the soap since the ones I got were super fresh.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Go ahead and try them out- they are having a special sale for all of us who are allergic to coconut!</div>

<br />
I want to start by reminding everyone to be aware of the many sls-free toothpastes that are also flouride free. This may not be what you are looking for if you are into cavity prevention. The only times I have ever gotten cavities in my life is when I used flouride-free, sls-free toothpaste. So maybe flouride and sls are both considered poisonous to some people who also demand that all of their products be made by solar power. However, I find that one of the points of brushing my teeth is to NOT get cavities while at the same time NOT dying from an allergic reaction. <br />
<br />
UPDATE! As of March 2018 the original Closys now contains a coconut derived ingredient!<br />
<br />

NO LONGER AVAILABLE:<br />
<br />
Tom's of Maine used to have such awesome toothpastes that they have now taken off the market. They have only kept their flouride-free sls free ones, but sls-free does NOT mean coconut free in these new pastes, unfortunately. Booo!<br />
<br />
Original Closys now contains <span style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt;">"sodium lauroyl sarcosinate"! </span><br />

Not so if you are someone who is allergic to coconut.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In the distant past I remember getting an email or two from readers who asked me about the safety of coconut carbon filters. I always replied with a big, honest "Sorry, I have NO IDEA what you are talking about." Logically, a water filter is supposed to filter, not add stuff to the water, right?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Then I had an experience of my own.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
I went to my allergy doctor about a year ago for an annual check up. The kind of little check-in where he refills the epi -pen and steroid prescriptions,etc. I happened to mention to him that it almost always felt like I had a lump in my throat. When I swallowed, it felt like something was catching. . . and sometimes my throat itched a little bit. I thought it was probably unrelated to allergies, but had him look. He said he DEFINITELY thought it was allergy related. It went away whenever I took zyrtec, after all. He had me do some exploring to try and see what it was, but we couldn't identify any brand new allergies, and he doubted it was environmental because of how it manifested in in a condition called Eosinophilic (ee-uh-sin-uh-fil-ik) esophagitis.<br />
<br />
After a few months it subsided on its own and I didn't figure out the cause. . . until I realized. . .<br />
<br />
Several months ago, we had a water leak in our kitchen. We had to unhook all our relatively new marvelous reverse osmosis water system and start drinking regular tapwater for a few months until we reconstructed our damaged walls and cabinets, etc. During that time I had no allergic problems at all. The lump in my throat went away. When our reverse osmosis was freshly installed again along with all its brand new filters I took a long drink from a tall glass of water. I hadn't eaten anything for a long time before or after. There it was, my throat was itching.<br />
<br />
My husband contacted the manufacturer of the water filters because he has actually worked on water purification systems for a few of his projects as an engineer. He knew that the best filters in the business, used to purify water for medical-grade soaps and liquid medications, were all coconut based. But I didn't think that our home would have such a filter. It turned out that it did. Not only that, but the filter company is used to responding to questions about coconut allergies! Our upgrade to an excellent reverse osmosis system included an upgrade to serious coconut fibers.<br />
<br />
As it turns out, the company does have a fix. Unfortunately, you have to bypass the final filter that adjusts the actual taste of the water to avoid the one that has coconut. But, the manufacturer was awesome and sent us the little T-shaped part for free.<br />
<br />
I am very allergic to coconut, but I never thought I was sensitive enough to react to the minute particles that might find their way into water from a coconut carbon filter!<br />
<br />Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12048687377002963612noreply@blogger.com47tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5681567699013298785.post-20674657638271227332016-07-12T16:00:00.001-07:002016-07-12T16:00:15.215-07:00If I'm allergic to coconut, am I allergic to BABASSU?Many people have asked the question, "If I am allergic to coconut, then how likely am I to be allergic to _________". Fill the blank with things like palm oil, dates, babassu oil, or even pineapple. We start to fear anything that grows on a palm-ish looking tree.<br />
<br />
Well, it depends. Let's do a little <span style="color: red; font-size: large;">elementary taxonomy lesson</span> before I tell you about my personal experience.<br />
<br />
All living things are grouped into categories. This method of grouping is called taxonomy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjIG0FN_2HAqzo9B_a63QnrKYEVno-wBHi8RlmT8OXOhedAD-0dY21yr5gGc60z5fvgDOC21nfYgj_bSScifVnbi1AhGrkLokecwkLU3bRFfao6s6_fNia0PZQnhg9tNKv3f95S7iThyT8/s1600/Taxonomy+Levels.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="284" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjIG0FN_2HAqzo9B_a63QnrKYEVno-wBHi8RlmT8OXOhedAD-0dY21yr5gGc60z5fvgDOC21nfYgj_bSScifVnbi1AhGrkLokecwkLU3bRFfao6s6_fNia0PZQnhg9tNKv3f95S7iThyT8/s320/Taxonomy+Levels.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
When we talk about foods and anything that grows, it is all in the plant kingdom (plantae). There are a zillion different kinds of plants, and out of those there are tons that we eat. Botatnists can map them out into smaller and smaller groups depending on their genetic makeup.<br />
<br />
For example, you may have heard that potatoes, eggplant, and tomatoes are all in the nightshade family (Solanaceae). It is extremely rare to be allergic to all nightshades. (As an unrelated side note, nightshade intolerance is more common.)<br />
<br />
Different tree nuts are all in the same family and class, but are different orders. Yet, busy allergists commonly mix all the nuts together into "tree nuts" and tell patients to avoid all of them. People who are allergic to one tree nut are very commonly allergic to one or more others. <br />
<br />
Palm is a family called Arecaceae. Try spelling that without looking! Coconut is in this palm family along with things like date palms, which are in a different genus.<br />
<br />
Let's now compare Coconut (Cocos Nucifera) vs. Babassu (Attalea Speciosa). They are not only in the same order, but are in the same subfamily and tribe, which aren't shown on my chart but are specific subcategories that come before genus. Babassu is basically coconut's closest plant relative.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXwGMxOTFXvnpij_doXKrmzF6N7VYvkudPloi-mY9EpiIioy94FoYP_-kK3fTQZCZ5Tf49Kcobe4nqTWXdXBub3NWC2MXCwgL2omBdJ7gcm5aQGlzl7WzE0Y4nxewP4nTfZOAElhsoR969/s1600/palm+taxonomy.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="290" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXwGMxOTFXvnpij_doXKrmzF6N7VYvkudPloi-mY9EpiIioy94FoYP_-kK3fTQZCZ5Tf49Kcobe4nqTWXdXBub3NWC2MXCwgL2omBdJ7gcm5aQGlzl7WzE0Y4nxewP4nTfZOAElhsoR969/s400/palm+taxonomy.png" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) is in the center, Attalea Speciosa (Babassu) is right above it!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I have been sent several samples by three different unrelated companies to try products with babassu oil. Two of them claim "coconut free!" on their websites. However, I have had powerful allergic reactions to them every time. However, I do not have reactions to many products containing palm oil, which is also in the same genus and tribe. Palm oil is tricky because it can be sourced from all different kinds of palms. I have occasionally reacted if I eat a product with a lot of it. I would never attempt to eat hearts of palm. No thank you.<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;">In summary: </span></b><br />
YES, if you are allergic to coconut you will <b><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">most likely</span></b> be allergic to<span style="font-size: large;"> <b><span style="color: red;">babassu</span></b></span>. <br />
It is <b><span style="color: #b45f06; font-size: large;">somewhat likely</span></b> you will react to<span style="color: #b45f06; font-size: large;"> <b>palm</b></span>. <br />
It is <b><span style="color: #bf9000; font-size: large;">unlikely</span></b> that you will be allergic to <b><span style="color: #bf9000; font-size: large;">dates</span></b>. <br />
<br />
You absolutely <b>should not</b> be allergic to <b>pineapple</b> unless it's an unrelated allergy.<br />
<br />
I welcome feedback from people who are actual botanists, of course! My knowledge of nomenclature is admittedly primitive.<br />
<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you are allergic to coconut, please stay away from any hardened-type chocolate or other flavored coating on ice cream like DQ dipped cones. Even chocolate chip ice cream has coconut in the chocolate chunks or chips 95% of the time. I have allergic reactions to the hot fudge sauce at Baskin Robbins, so be careful there, too. Most ice creams there do contain coconut, but they have ingredients listed right on the case so they make it easy to see.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Also, for the eating at home ice cream folks, read the labels because Magic shell and all other known hardening toppings have coconut in them.<br />
<br />
But, I'll give you some hope. You can make your own magic shell! Just melt 1/2 cup chocolate chips and 1 tsp canola oil in the microwave for a minute, stir, and then add 30 seconds until it is completely melted. Let cool slightly and pour it over your favorite (coconut free) ice cream. It's even yummier than the bottled stuff. <br />
<br />
Also, my family has a favorite homemade microwave hot fudge sauce recipe that is just like this one: http://www.food.com/recipe/easy-microwave-hot-fudge-topping-82303<br />

I would like you to meet my very most favorite coconut-free soap. </h4>
<h3>
This is Jane. Jane, meet my coconut-allergic friends!</h3>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Pectolite's Plain Jane Soap</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
Jane is great. She comes from a soap maker named <a href="http://www.pectolite.net/Coconut-Oil-Free-Soap-s/1816.htm" target="_blank">PECTOLITE</a>. Lee, the owner of Pectolite (whom I've only met through email) wanted my opinion on her new coconut-free line before she started it up.</div>
<div>
She is really interested in making quality, natural products with no gunk in them and also has a friend who is allergic to coconut whom she is trying to help out.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And that's when Plain Jane Soap and I met. Jane has never let me down. Sure, she is pretty plain. So plain, she's not even vanilla. Nope. She's super clean-cut. I have to admit, I have definitely used her, but she's held up better than any coconut-free soap. And, my husband is a big fan of this soap, too. He's not even allergic to anything but he is a picky soap guy. He likes how super moisturizing it is and compared it to Dove. It is amazing during these cold dry winter months. I even started using it to shave with. Check Plain Jane out after more than a month of sliding around in my shower!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Good OLD mostly-used Jane</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
For those of you who are used to most coconut-free soaps, you will notice one HUGE difference: No slimyness. She ages beautifully! And yes, she lathers!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
But wait just a second,<b> Jane has a brand new WILDER younger sibling who has yet to be named. </b></h3>

I haven't personally tried them because many of them contain mango, which I happen to be sensitive to. But, she could also make custom products.<br />
<br />
Her son has <span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif; font-size: 12pt;">severe eczema, asthma, nut/tree nut and fish
allergies. Her daughters are sensitive to coconut; their hair hates it and any
trace of it. She found herself trying to find products to
accommodate their needs while trying to be budget conscious. So she started making basic things like hair
and body butter and eventually moved on to more extensive items like hair
cleanser, conditioner, cream and gels.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif; font-size: 12pt;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif; font-size: 12pt;">It looks like this could be a great place to go for coconut free products, especially if you have super thick, curly hair!</span><br />

Unless you make everything yourself, you really never know how allergy- safe holiday food is.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In past years, I've discussed <a href="http://coconutallergy.blogspot.com/2011/12/surviving-holidays-with-coconut-allergy.html" target="_blank">Surviving the Holidays with a Coconut Allergy.</a> But, I mainly focused on which coconutty foods to avoid. This year, I want you to give yourself the gift of enlisting your family or friends in becoming your allergy advocate. </div>

Here is how you can train others to make your life less lame during social meals:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First, show your family or friends this interactive guide on Healthline:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.healthline.com/health/anaphylaxis/effects-on-body" target="_blank">The Effects of Anaphylaxis on the Body</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.healthline.com/health/anaphylaxis/effects-on-body" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPOqLM9GHsOIVoglWPleTDJvxUSoS24jy2_YP5rf-Ml98z35P7rtjLXxTq3d7Dn4NIsA8HbHzTpeo-_6yKPLEtNTdPNNsHbIWbT-2WYLBEo4Kh0oymSM3i5Z98HbUfbFI-nZUlQ7-rBzUt/s1600/anaphylaxis.jpg" height="320" width="242" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This guide will help them know what life threatening symptoms could possibly be caused by your allergy. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Second, dig out your PRACTICE EPI PEN and all of your other meds (Benadryl, Steroids, etc). And show them how to save your life if it ever happens to you.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Next, tell them how NOT FUN it is for you to always have to be the one defending yourself against potential allergens in food. Give them lists of foods you are allergic to on paper, or keep a list on your iPhone that you can text them. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Finally, when it's time to eat, put THEM to work. It will now be their responsibility to make sure you easily find safe food. Ideally, your loved ones should come up to you at the beginning of a shared meal or party, point out what they brought to eat, and tell you whether or not it is something that you can safely eat. Remind them that it's totally fine if they bring something you can't eat, as long as you know you can't eat it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The icing on the cake comes when you go out to eat and your companions get the allergy menu for you, they remind the server of how serious your allergies are, or they call the restaurant ahead of time to make sure the chef can prepare something you can eat. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Allergies are rough during the holidays. Hopefully, once you enlist and train others who are willing to go to bat for you, it can be less lame. Friends who stick up for friends with allergies are showing so much needed love during a holiday; and that is a gift money can't buy. </div>

With her permission, I will share her email since it is pretty much how we all feel about slimy alternative soap (see below):<br />

wanted to thank you for your blog at <a href="http://coconutallergy.blogspot.com/" target="_blank" title="http://coconutallergy.blogspot.com/">coconutallergy.blogspot.com</a>.
My husband has a coconut allergy, which seems to be somewhat uncommon as he’s
not allergic to any other kind of nuts, only coconut. His throat will
swell if he eats whole coconut, he will get sick to his stomach if he eats
movie theater popcorn that’s popped in coconut oil, his skin will break out on
contact if he uses shampoos or other products that contain coconut oil.</span><span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif";"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

gotten away from using most commercial or non-organic cosmetics, shampoos,
lotions, and soaps. If my local health food store won’t carry it, I don’t
want it on my skin. My biggest stumbling block has been bar soap.
The vast majority contain coconut oil, because of its moisturizing properties
and the thick, rich lather it creates. My only alternative has been castille/olive
oil soap, but my husband doesn’t like it because it’s ‘slimy’.</span><span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif";"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

husband approved. Much better than the ‘slimy’ Kiss My Face olive oil

<pre>Good Morning Melissa,
Our Bar soap products (4oz and 7oz size ) are both made in Jordan and then
shipped to the United States. Our lotion, Hand Washes and Body Washes are
made in the United States with Dead Sea Salt brought in from Jordan. The
same can be said for our Dead Sea mineral Bath Salts.
We do have a line of our products that is called Coconut Lime. As you are
aware, we recommend you to not use this line.
We used to have a bar soap called Coconut Milk but this was discontinued
All of our other bar soaps SHOULD be Coconut Free. There SHOULD not be
cross-contamination. But we do not guarantee the production line in the
warehouse.
We recommend that you test a small area on your body to double check for any
allergies that some people have to natural fragrances.
If there is a particular scent which you prefer, I can provide the
ingredients list to you.
If you would like more in depth information on the ingredients used, One
With Nature utilizes the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients
(INCI) I have provided the link for your reference.

I often joke with people that I totally wouldn't mind being a vegan, but I can't, because I'm allergic to coconut. Seriously, it's in everything these days because it's been marketed as the newest "healthy" fat.<br />
<br />
I would like to provide some reassuring yin to the yang for all of us who are longingly wishing we could march along in the coconut oil parade. I cook pretty much everything from the periodic table because of my allergies, so, not to brag, but my time in the kitchen has taught me many things about making good food that doesn't taste at all tropical.<br />
<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Virtually ALL oils contain less saturated fat than coconut oil. It's considered a SOLID fat even though it is liquid at room temperature.</li>
<li>One tablespoon has 11.8 g of saturated fat, .8g monounsaturated fat, and .2 grams of polyunsaturated fat. It has only trace amounts of nutrients. It also has 117 calories. Genuine butter has 102 calories, and 7g of saturated fat, .4 polyunsaturated, 3g of monounsaturated, and .5 g of trans fat. </li>
<li>Coconut oil has a neutral, not beneficial effect on cholesterol. It raises both good and bad cholesterol.</li>
</ul>
<div>
Now that we are less sad that we are allergic to it, what do we do with it in recipes that we want to try? Well, it depends entirely on the recipe! </div>
<div>
<ul>
<li><b>Coconut Oil</b>- substitute butter, shortening, or other vegetable, canola, etc oils.</li>
<li><b>Coconut Milk</b>- substitute whole milk, or non-dairy milks (paying attention to the flavor of the milk)</li>
<li><b>Shredded coconut</b>- this one really depends on what you are making! For example, if you want to alter the frosting on a german chocolate cake, just add extra nuts to the frosting instead (try slivered almonds), OR sunflower seeds, dried shredded fruit (like thinly sliced apricots), or rolled oats.</li>
<li><b>Coconut flour</b>- regular wheat flour, or a combination of gluten free flours (let me know if you need help with this because you'll need to keep it high in protein and fiber, so adding flax seed and soy flour will help any rice flour mix)</li>
</ul>
</div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisDZnFJMKXm7PeCVv_4OunGyXuClpgKN_s0DeBYZI3ASPkEiVmjNYBmDZqdAuOKCcQMVV6_s7Wiovwz2HfsKzWwzgidjKPUKm7yiJEqKziK4AAvRLFhIDdm4oa9IP23UlNyfYnoFJNtk2I/s1600/ducky+cake+for+james.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisDZnFJMKXm7PeCVv_4OunGyXuClpgKN_s0DeBYZI3ASPkEiVmjNYBmDZqdAuOKCcQMVV6_s7Wiovwz2HfsKzWwzgidjKPUKm7yiJEqKziK4AAvRLFhIDdm4oa9IP23UlNyfYnoFJNtk2I/s1600/ducky+cake+for+james.jpg" height="259" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">For stand alone cake forms, look for a pound cake type recipe with real butter. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Baking</b></div>
<div>
When subbing coconut oil in baked goods, look at the end result and the amount of fat in the finished product, for example:</div>
<div>
MOST FAT= like brownies - use butter or margarine</div>
<div>
HIGH FAT= like cookies or biscuits- use less butter or margarine</div>
<div>
MODERATE FAT= like muffins - use oil</div>
<div>
LOWER FAT= cakelike - use oil or cream</div>
<div>
NON FAT= like cardboard if you leave it out</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Usually, you can make baked goods hold together and have a slightly more cakelike texture if you substitute applesauce.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In baked goods, depending on the item, you can use melted butter, shortening, cream, yogurt, applesauce, milk, or milk substitutes. It all depends on what you are making and how much fat you want to eat. The end texture will be more like cake as you remove the saturated fats. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
What is killing me recently is the amount of recipes that call for butter AND coconut oil. That gets kind of confusing. I usually just add milk or cream and end up with something slightly more (and delightfully) fluffy than it is probably supposed to be.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you have a recipe you want to send me, I can give you advice on what to sub out. </div>

<br />
Most make-up companies usually don't list the ingredients for the world to see. So, if you want to go to the drug store to shop for make-up, you will probably find it to be a frustrating and mysterious experience.<br />
However, I have had great success and patience from workers at Origins stores, since they have their own storefront for just their brand. However, don't try to get much from their online representatives. All of my requests for ingredients have been redirected to the point of being completely ignored if I try to get them emailed to me. Also, a good Mary Kay representative will be able to go into their personal computer system and search for ingredients that you are allergic to and see which products use them. This has been how I get the only makeup I have found to work for me. But, believe me, I really don't use much makeup anymore.<br />
<br />
MASCARA= No, thank you. <br />
I remember the first allergic reaction I had to some mascara (all mascara that I have found has SLS in it or something coconut related to make it slippery). About a half hour after I put it on, it made me feel like my eyelids were being peeled back over the top of my head. It burned! This was, most likely, a sign as a teenager that I had a coconut allergy. Mascara is just so risky if you're allergic to coconut. If you MUST glam it up in the eyelash realm and aren't sensitive to adhesives, try some falsies. They really are fun, can look pretty natural, and actually in fashion right now (well, depending on where you live in the country). If you live in a big city you can even find salons who will glue them on for you!<br />
<br />
LIQUID FOUNDATION= Avoid it.<br />
Another makeup item to watch out for is cover-up or foundation. In its liquid form, it contains SLS as well. A good alternative is pure mineral makeup.<br />
<br />
LIPSTICK= Take time to sort through them.<br />
I find that about half of lipsticks have coconut ingredients. Look for lipstick that you can sharpen with the big pencil sharpener, rather than the extra creamy stuff in the regular lipstick tubes. Many of the pencil lipsticks still have Coco-something or rather.<br />
<br />
EYELINER= Maybe, maybe not.<br />
Liquid eyeliners, like lipsticks, tend to have more allergenic ingredients. So, stick with the ones that are in pencil form, and research labels carefully.<br />
<br />
EYE SHADOW= Yes, please! But only if powder. Still double check, but I haven't ever found a powdered eye shadow that had anything coconutty in it. Cream eye shadows would be more iffy.<br />
<br />
FACE POWDER- Safe :-). This may be your go-to makeup item. Powders usually have very few ingredients, mostly talcum, minerals, and tints. Not usually anything coconut-related.<br />
<br />
BLUSH- Usually safe, if powder<br />
<br />
As you can see, most of the purely powdery makeup is safe. You can make it work better if you skin is dry by applying a moisturizer that you aren't allergic to (nutrogena seems to work well) right before you put on the powder to help it stick. You can even mix your powder with your moisturizer.<br />
<br />
Experiment, and let me know what you've been able to come up with! Let us all know what your favorites are.Beckyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12048687377002963612noreply@blogger.com40
