SURPRISE! It contains coconut.

Foods that contain coconut are EVERYWHERE, even in places you wouldn't think.

My worst coconut allergy is to movie theater popcorn (many still put coconut oil in the butter, even when they say its got real butter in it).

These items also contain coconut:

Quaker Granola products-
I had a mild allergic reaction to the little granola bites, but didn't realize until recently that they put coconut in almost anything related to granola!

Now, I love Cool Whip, but since it has a high level of coconut oil, I am now banned from all mysterious whippy things at pot-luck dinners!

In fact, many processed foods contain some form of coconut, like this store brand "Mexican Lasagne." It has "fractionated coconut oil" in its chili spice. AAgh! Is nothing safe?

Welcome! Feel free to add any info you have discovered.

Wasn't Christmas the worst for folks allergic to coconut? You wouldn't believe all the chocolates that contain coconut oil! Not to mention the foods that overtly contain coconut.

My daughter ate Chewy SweetTarts today and had a swollen mouth. Sure enough...Coconut oil! Who knew?

I learned that it's not the butter I'm allergic to, but the salt. I love to pop my own popcorn at home on movie night. That way I know just what I'm getting. I bought the nice popcorn oil and salt. Low and behold, coconut oil was in the popcorn salt. The oil was just fine. So, fair warning... Act II uses coconut oil in the popcorn salt!

Thank you for this Blog! I have treated my coconut allergy casually. But, I since I have gotten older and my allergy has worsened, I now read almost all labels and ask what is in everything. I found your blog and am so happy to read all the entries!
The day that we brought our second baby home from the hospital, my husband brought home sweet potatoes from Boston Market (we live in VA). I got so very sick and had to take Benadryl. It was a horrible first night home. So stay away from prepared sweet potatoes as well. Thanks again!

I recently received a tin full of Halloween goodies which included candy corn and the mallowcreme pumpkins. I looked at the packaging to check the calorie content and found that they contained coconut oil!

I saw a comment about halloween candy, and yes add Baby Ruth to the list.

I found out I am allergic to coconut products, coconut oil and am glad this is here. I am sad to report that Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia has coconut oil in it. It now explains why I broke out in a heavy rash.

I moved to Australia 3 years ago and EVERYTHING here contains coconut! People here think it's healthy so they poison everything with it. Coconut flour is the new evil, they've started using it instead of wheat flour so now I can't even eat bread! It's not a common allergy here and people treat me like I'm crazy when I say I'm allergic to coconut. Eating out is impossible and a lot of supermarket brands don't bother to specify that their 'vegetable oil/fat' is indeed coconut, so there have been some tough times learning what I can and can't have. Thanks for making this blog, it's comforting to know that I'm not alone :)

was looking over this blog for a friend...i am not allergic to coconut but do have quite a few other allergies/sensitivities.
my comment is that the best/simplest thing to do for food is buy real whole food, not processed. Then you’ll know exactly what’s in it. vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, seeds, if u can tolerate, meat and fish if you aren’t vegetarian. buy local when you can because you can more easily communicate with the producer (for example if you eat dairy or eggs, to find out if the cows/chickens get coconut in their feed).

if you’re used to eating fake processed foods it might sound hard or overwhelming especially if you don’t know how to cook. but really feeling like shit and being sick and spending money on shit that you later find you can’t eat is probably just as stressful. I don’t particularly enjoy cooking so i eat a lot of raw food or things that can be cooked in bulk like baked sweet potatoes, or boiled eggs, rice, etc
olive oil real salt pepper lemons and garlic are basic spices my food is always good and i’m not usually hungry.
the soap products are more challenging in sounds, honestly.
anyway, just a suggestion from someone who has to watch everything that goes in my body. buy whole food and prep yourself. then you will know what’s in it. bring snacks you can eat when you’re out too, otherwise it’s hard to say no to stuff that will make you sick. at least for me it is. good luck to everyone
