Homemade Natural Hair care products

Candace, an Etsy shop owner at KirkmanKoils has pointed us to a few of her natural hair care products that are coconut-free.  I haven't personally tried them because many of them contain mango, which I happen to be sensitive to.  But, she could also make custom products.

Her son has severe eczema, asthma, nut/tree nut and fish allergies. Her daughters are sensitive to coconut; their hair hates it and any trace of it. She found herself trying to find products to accommodate their needs while trying to be budget conscious. So she started making basic things like hair and body butter and eventually moved on to more extensive items like hair cleanser, conditioner, cream and gels.

It looks like this could be a great place to go for coconut free products, especially if you have super thick, curly hair!

Her shop can be found on Etsy at https://www.etsy.com/shop/KirkmansKoils. The shea/nut free section can be found here https://www.etsy.com/listing/243021733/kirkmanskoils-nut-free-products-coconut.

Let me know if you try any!  There are a lot of creative hair product ideas here for sure.

Thank you for this post (and your whole blog) my daughter has developed a severe coconut allergy and it is hard to find substitutes, especially since coconut seems very fashionable at the moment! :-D

I used the KirkmanKoils hair products and found that there are some positives but also many negatives.
Have a severe tree nut/ coconut allergy has been difficult. Candace customized my items to be tree nut/ coconut free which is AMAZING.
The shampoo is a natural mild cleaner with no lather which I have gotten used to.
The condition is nice, but does not soften my hair. It is not slippery which is needed for coarse hair. When you put conditioner on you should know it the right product for coarse hair. This one is not right for me.
The stimulating oil is great, but I can’t get past the Rosemary smell. I want my hair to smell nice, not like food.
The packaging was awful and NOT at all as shown on the website. It was send with a handwritten sticker which smears off with water.
It might work better on fine hair.
I will have to continue my 40 year search for nut/ coconut free hair products. Arggggg!!!!

Thank you so much for this website! I just found out I have a severe coconut allergy to the point it causes me to go into anaphalytic shock. Can't even be in the same room as it. I appreciate this sooooooooooooooo much!

I found a brand called Chagrin Valley Soap and Salve. They have some products that are without coconut. They made a list on there website for people with coconut allergies. My sister has a coconut allergy, so I've been looking up things to help.

I contacted Skin Safe and be very careful. Ingredients that can be derived from more than on source where the manufacturer has not listed where it’s derived gets through. So for instance the product says Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. This can be derived from petroleum or coconut. If the manufacturer does not list “Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (coconut)” than it will STILL get through the filter as coconut free. Because they do not know where the ingredient was derived from. You still have to contact the manufacturer to be sure.
